Hello and Happy Monday!

For the proposal on Google Docs I'd like you to include the following:

Your group members
A brief description of your video 4-5 sentences.
What types of shots/angles you are going to include.
If you will require any props.
Where you are planning to shoot your video.

You must complete the above along with a storyboard before you can start filming your video.

December 6th

Today at the beginning of class we will explore photoshop video a little further and finish the work we were doing in class yesterday. Your challenge is to try to find out to change the frame per second rate so make a clip in slow-motion or fast-motion. When you are done, be sure to add credits to your video (reminder you have to make a new layer and add text on it). Also, try playing with the fades, transitions, etc.

When you are done, export your video and save it. You can begin brainstorming ideas for your video below: (I do not have storyboard paper for you today, but you can use printer paper and fold it into 4 to make 8 squares. You will not start filming your video today.

Assignment Two: A Chase Sequence

In a group of 3 or 4, you will plan, film and edit (individually) a short chase sequence to demonstrate matched action, and a variety of shot types.
Your sequence must include:
  • a variety of shot types: establishing (long), close-up, and medium shots
  • between 6 - 12 shots
First, storyboard your plan (do this individually and submit to me before filming).
For each shot on your storyboard:
  • sketch the scene
  • identify the type of shot
  • identify the angle of the shot (high, low, neutral)
Remember: No panning or zooming allowed - use a tripod for best results.
You do NOT need to work with the same group as before.

For the first part of the class, we will do another online tutorial and for the second part, we will play with the photoshop video feature.

Part 1:

Today we will learning about SHOT types, and then beginning our first assignment.
You can follow along in the lesson by going http://video101course.com/ and clicking on SHOTS.

Answer the following questions in your blog:

1. In point form, describe each kind of shot and when you would use them:

  • Close-up
  • Long shot
  • Medium Shot
  • High Angle
  • Low Angle
2. Define the following:
  • head room
  • looking room
  • lead room
3. Why are horizontal lines discouraged in shots? What should you use instead and why?
4. What rule have we already learned that emphasizes the same thing?

Part 2

Once you're done, you can play with the photoshop video and try to put together the same video that you did yesterday  on iMovie but this time in Photoshop.

December 4th

Hello and Happy Wednesday!

Today you can finish your video editing tutorials from yesterday, and then today we will go out and start filming our first mini-project. We will film a scene of someone going through a door way, they must open the door, walk through, and exit. For this, you should use your knowledge of a jump cut to make this a smooth transition. You will work in groups of 3.

Deember 3rd

Good morning everyone!

Today we will spend 15 minutes finishing the work from yesterday and then we will move on to talk about videography. Before we can start shooting, we need to learn how to shoot so as a class we will watch the following videos:

Shooting Basics

Jump Cuts

After this you will work through the following videography tutorials at your own speed. Please click on "Editing". It might seem backwards to start with editing but it actually makes sense to work backwards with videography so you know what scenes you will need. You can work through the tutorial and answer the following at the end:

Tutorial

According to the blog, what is editing?
1. What is a sequence? What order should a sequence generally follow? Why?
2. What is matched action? When should you cut a shot to give it the most "invisible" type of editing possible?
3. What is a jump cut? How do you hide it?
4. What is screen direction? How do you ensure that you maintain good screen direction?
5. How can you use exit/entrances to help you match the action in a sequence?
